Wedding | Andrew & Gretchen
Aug 14, 2019
Andrew and Gretchen reached out to me about a year and a half before their wedding day, so to say I had been waiting for this day is an understatement! I was so excited the minute I heard Gretchen’s vision for her wedding day! Lavender, succulents, and a garden ceremony? Sign me up!
I had the pleasure of being Andrew and Gretchen’s engagement photographer, too, and we had so much fun despite the awful weather conditions we found ourselves in! Andrew and Gretchen had one day that they were in Buffalo (they live in Virginia) so we were extremely limited to the day of their engagement photos! We managed to get some really great shots even though it rained nearly the entire time! After this day, I knew that Andrew and Gretchen would be up for any adventure and we joked the entire time that it will be a sunny and rain-free day on their wedding day!!
Fast forward quite a few months to their wedding day and whatdoyaknow… we had the most beautiful (and hot) sunny, blue sky, day for an outdoor wedding! After the rain we had for our engagement photos, we couldn't’ complain one bit about the heat we had for their wedding day!
Andrew and Gretchen chose to have their wedding in Buffalo, New York where Gretchen grew up! I should mention that I know Gretchen through high school! I was in the same grade as her twin sisters. I grew up with Michelle and Kristin Kindergarten through Senior year, so I always knew their older sister, Gretchen as well! (You might recognize Kristin and Michelle from some photos I've taken of them at Disney World!)
Andrew and Gretchen had their ceremony at the Hull Family Home & Farmstead in Lancaster, New York. Not only was it the perfect venue for an outdoor garden ceremony, but it was the perfect place for Gretchen and her bridesmaids to get ready that morning!
Andrew looked so good with his awesome bowtie from Classic Knot. Classic Knot is run by a 13 year old here in Buffalo, NY who makes these bowties himself! How impressive is that!?
Can you tell I had a little too much fun playing with their rings with these gorgeous succulents!? Love these shots!
The ladies had the whole Victorian home to themselves to get ready in and it was spacious and bright! I love these photos of Gretchen getting all ready!
The ceremony was out in the partly sunny/partly shady landscaped garden area behind the Victorian home. It was the most perfect setting for a wedding. One thing you can’t tell from my pictures… ;) there was a fountain running and it added some nice background noise during the ceremony!
Andrew was holding back tears when he first saw his bride. Very sweet.
After the ceremony, we took some family pictures in the garden!
Next up, bridal party portraits!
I could have photographed these two for hours, but we had to drive to our next destination! And I’m so glad we made time for pictures here too! These are some of my favorites! Andrew and Gretchen’s wedding reception was downtown on Ohio Street at a newer wedding venue called Tewksbury Lodge.
You might be more familiar with the restaurant and wedding venue, Buffalo Riverworks, right across the Buffalo River from Tewksbury! (Speaking of Riverworks, here is a wedding I photographed there a couple years back!) I highly recommend considering Tewksbury Lodge for your next event because the lighting was wonderful, the location on the water can’t be beat, and everyone RAVED about the food! It was a great time!
I was only at the reception for a short time… long enough to capture bridal party entrances, cake cutting, the first dance, and the toasts! Enjoy!
Andrew and Gretchen, you two are so kind and I am so grateful I was asked to photograph your wedding! Andrew, you are one of the sweetest guys I know and I love watching the way you love your wife! Gretchen, you were a beautiful bride and I can’t get over your lace dress and your bouquet! You two deserve all the happiness in the world and I hope it isn’t too long until I get to photograph you again when you’re visiting Buffalo! Congratulations!
